Carl ZEISS Jena 6×18 DF pocket BINOCULAR Boxed complete with lanyard & pouch in Excellent Condition. Very rare and have only seen sold online a handful of times.
The unusual Klein-DF [small double telescope] = mini binocular
Made by Carl Zeiss in Jena, DDR [East Germany] during the 1970s
Their power is 6×18
Optically they are superb
Really good for general purpose observation including bird watching, racing, sports or anywhere you need lightweight, pocketable, steady imaging
This pair comes with an ultra light braided lanyard and their original suede leather zip-up pouch
SPECIFICATION
6×18 ultra compact roof prism variant binocular made in Jena, Germany during the 1970s
Constructed mostly of aluminium and bakelite with some brass and steel parts
Superb quality coated optical glass lenses
The optical path in these binoculars is interesting and unusual
It consists of a variant of the abbe koenig design [commonly known as roof prisms]
In these 6x18s there is only one roof prism, here the second smaller prism is replaced by a flat mirror
This not only saves weight and cost in construction it also reduces potential misalignment problems between the two images
These really do rival the compact 8x20s and 10x25s from Leitz and Zeiss
Easy follow-focus movement
Focus requires only a 90-degree turn from close-up to infinity!
Exceptional close focus performance to 12 feet / 4 meters, so excellent for close-up examination
Weight [binocular & lanyard]: 175 g / a shade over 6 ounces
Weight [binocular in pouch]: 225 g / 8 ounces
Absolutely no dings, dents or scratches or any signs of misuse
Movement of the focus wheel is smooth as also is the dioptre adjustment
Optically the lenses and prisms are bright and unmarked although there is a small black speck of dust in the RHS barrel
No signs of fungus, scratches, separation or de-silvering
This binocular delivers crisp, breathtaking images, tack sharp and with excellent contrast
Colour reproduction, alignment and collimation are spot on
Suitable for general observation from bird watching, sports, astronomy etc
This binocular comes with a light cord lanyard and the original suede leather zip up pouch
