THIS AUCTION IS FOR A PAIR OF CARL ZEISS D.F.6X JENA BINOCULARS SERIAL NUMBER 507697. THIS TYPE OF BINOCULAR WAS FIRST MADE IN 1907 AND INFORMATION FROM THE ZEISS SERIAL NUMBER TABLE THE NUMBER 500000 STARTED IN 1914-15 AND RAN THROUGH TO 1917 WHEN THE SERIAL NUMBERS STARTED AT 700000. AS A RESULT OF THIS INFORMATION I WOULD ESTIMATE THE DATE OF MANUFACTURE AS 1914-15. FROM OTHER RESEARCH I HAVE ALSO FOUND THAT THESE BINOCULARS WERE ISSUED SOLELY TO THE MILITARY AND THAT THEY WERE MAINLY ISSUED TO INFANTRY COMMANDERS AND WERE EXTENSIVELY USED UNTIL THE END OF WW1.THE BINOCULARS ARE COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL PROTECTION CAP AND ORIGINAL LEATHER CASE. THE FOCUS ADJUSTMENTS ARE STILL FUNCTIONAL AND THE OPTICS ARE CLEAR. THERE IS A SLIGHT ETCHING ON THE BINOCULARS OF THE NAME W. REES. AND ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CASE W. REES AND A SHEFFIELD ADDRESS ( SEE PHOTOGRAPHS ) I KNOW NOTHING OF W REES OR IF INDEED HE WAS IN THE MILITARY HIMSELF. THANK YOU FOR LOOKING, OVERSEAS BUYERS PLEASE CONTACT FOR SHIPPING COSTS.
