We are delighted to offer for sale this stereo binoviewer – FAULTY.  Usual selling price 149.991.00 start – NO RESERVE (and no Buy it Now)

OK, what’s wrong with it?  It is out of collimation and there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to adjust it.  actually, using the two 32mm Pl eyepieces in the set it wasn’t noticeable but putting higher power eyepieces on showed up the problem.  The manufacturers say they are factory set hence we can’t see a way to re-align them.  So, there you have it.  You buy it faults and all – NO RETURNS.

Supplied with 2 x 32mm Plossl eyepieces it is ready to go the moment you unpack it.  The 1.8x and 3x screw in Barlow lenses are included in the price.  And the eyepieces are of a very good standard too with a field of view of 48 degrees and 22mm eye relief.  This set has everything.

To be totally honest, the 1.85x Barlow isn’t that great but the 3x is fine as is viewing without a Barlow.

We frequently get asked about the quality of the set and its compatibility with our Starguider ED eyepieces.  Here is an independent review by one of our valued customers:

“Binoviewers /Starguider combo

For me they work really well together. I have BV set up for 8mm/18mm & 25mm BST Starguider.

When using BV you do not get the full 60 fov as you do with mono viewing. It is something nearer 48 – just narrower than a plossl or more than an ortho!

I have read a bit /different views /reviews on BV.

Apparently most/a lot of BVs are sold with 20mm or greater PL pair of eyepieces.  The reason behind this is that at this range of PL it is easier to merge the images from both eyes.  In my experience it just takes a little patience to merge the images and I’ve found if I leave it a few seconds more than I usually would, the image just pops out at you.

What I’m led to believe is by adding a BV you are (or at least in my case I am extending the light path) increasing magnification. I am led to believe my f10 sct fl2000mm is something like fl2300mm.  I have no accurate way to prove this apart from as it appears to me my 25mm when used with BV appears like magnification of 18mm mono & my 18mm BV set up would be nearer 15mm magnification if using mono.

At some point I would like to try 12mm and 15mm in my BV – I just haven’t got around to it.

My favourite set up with BV is 18 mm Starguiders. This does not give me a full lunar disc as it would in mono. 25mm gives full lunar disc.  The 8mm pair is good for observing craters when conditions allow.

I had my best view of the Great Orion Nebula with BV 18.

The 1.85x and 3x nosepiece barlows work well. It’s just whatever combination you prefer.

With 25mms BV one of the nosepieces did give a slight blue ring at edge.

Using BV is an enjoyable/comfortable way to observe lunar surface. I have used them for Mars/Jupiter /Uranus Nebulas and Pleiades.  Jupiter with moons was fantastic.

For larger targets it is a choice of what you prefer.”
