WW1 Binocular Marked Military Stereo 6×30 Crown Optical Company Rochester ,New York, USA. A little unusual with Engraved British broad arrows to indicate they belonged to the Admiralty or War office.
In September 1914 the British army devised designations for privately donated binoculars.They were classified as to their type and quality. Each donated binocular was marked with a capital S followed by a grade number. These are marked S.2 that puts them in the grade category Second grade prismatic binocular. Below this mark is the number 24114. The serial number is 9008.
Also can be seen in the photographs is where somebody has scratched the British broad arrow and another marking that I am unable to identify it looks maybe Chinese or Japanese,see 4th photograph.
Mechanically all working as they should.
Physically showing their age with paint loss and loss to the black leather covering.
Optically fungus onto the lenses and milkiness is observed.
