Antique MARINE TELESCOPE SPENCER BROWNING & RUST SINGLE DRAW SPYGLASS 23.75 ”

DescriptionAn Antique Single Draw Leather Bound Ships Officer of the Watch Marine Telescope or Spyglass.
Marked on the Eyepiece, SBR, this stands for Spencer Browning & Rust its London Maker.

This Telescope will date to between 1784 & 1840.Silver Nickel Plated Brass and Leather.

Engraved underneath the Sunshade, ( unusually ) ….N. A. Wood, with an earlier Name John Lloyd in Cursive Script crossed through, also marked Borth which is a Welsh Coastal Village not far from Aberystwyth.

As seen I have had this Telescope apart, all in very good order internally with only minor signs of age and use.

All the Lenses are now clean, all are present and correct, no major wear, cracks, chips, nothing loose or badly worn.Focuses easily and precisely giving a superbly clear, sharp and powerful image in use, as expected its magnification strength is very good. All the Threaded Components run well on clean threads and tighten properly, no issues at all.The Leather Binding shows surface signs of age and use, also it has shrunk a little over time and the Seam has parted, it is a little loose at the ends but is not loose overall, I think it may have been re-glued at some time.

The Barrel itself has no structural issues, obviously I cannot see underneath the Binding but it feels fine, no movement, no obvious dents, large or small.

Both Ends are strong with no movement, the Sun / Rain shade is all good, working firmly and smoothly.

The Objective Dust Cover is present and fits firmly. The Draw is a good friction fit, moving smoothly and firmly with only minimal sideways play at the joint when fully extended. The Shutter on the Eye-piece is working firmly. A very good quality collectable and working Antique Marine Telescope by a Documented London Maker, a great find !.

Shown comprehensively in the many pictures, please examine them in close up before you bid, to satisfy yourself as to condition, suitability, etc. of the item(s) shown.I always show items in their true light, and will never deliberately hide a negative or detrimental aspect.

Widest External Diameter of the Barrel is 4.60 cms.

Fully open / closed measures as shown.

Weighs approx’ :- 879.0 gms, not packed for Shipping. Will be Shipped Domestically or Worldwide as required, closed and in a Rigid Cardboard Tube with the appropriate packing to ensure its safe transit.
