Antique (c.1855) Engraved Negretti & Zambra Brass Field Binoculars
Hi! up for auction is a pair of antique binoculars, with a deep brass patina. Makers mark is engraved on the internal tubing. No case.
Engraving: “Negretti & Zamba, London” ; “Instrument Makers To Her Majesty”.Notes: appointed by Queen Victoria after 1851 Great Exhibition, but no crest so assume early model.
Type: field binoculars. Maker: Negretti & Zambra. Date: c.1851-60. Serial No: none app. Lens: glass 56mm front ; 20mm back. Material: Brass case. Origin: London, England. Weight: 700g (1.8lb). Size: 5 x 2.5 x 5.5″ (7″ extended) (14 x 6 x 14cm (17xcm).
Condition: Good condition, wear & tear for age, cleaned, leather oiled. Dents on casing, wear of leather, heavily tarnished. Winder working, little stiff, needs oiling.
