These are a pair of WW1 (World War One / The Great War) Field Glasses / Binoculars I dont know much about them as they were just something found among my grandparents things and Im not a historian, Military or otherwise but this is what I did find out after a little bit of research
At the time of WW1 there was a shortage of binoculars so the Military bought in a lot of binoculars from various sources
All binoculars that were used by the British Armed Forces were stamped with the Ministry Broad Arrow
This pair were manufactured by;LEMAIRE FABT Paris (this company were famous for producing high spec opera glasses at the time)
The markings on them indicates their acceptance for service
S.3 (High Grade Galilean)4912 (Registration Number)The 4 digit registration number would suggest 1914 to early 1915
And the Military Broad Arrow
I can not find / see a de-commission Military Broad Arrow
The appear to be made from brass with a leather skin which is missing from one of the eye shades (see photos) everywhere else is intact but it does have a few scuffs. (See photos)
Overall in very good condition
The leather case does seem to be the original but the strap looks to be a replacement. For its age the case is in good condition although the front buckle is broken it does still close using the loop.
