SWIFTbinoculars were the top Japanese made brand in the U.K. in the 1960`s& 70`s. Selling in top department stores, independentphotographic shops and opticians, they were available on most highstreets. Their advertising & packaging made a proud boast:world`sfinest binoculars;the great german manufacturers wouldn`t have agreed, but have nodoubt, SWIFT`s top range binoculars were excellent in optical qualityand value for money no wonder they sold so well. So, what abouttoday? Interest in 60`s & 70`s VINTAGE RETRO style is everywhere,these swift top models ooze with it but are still so useable especially if like me, you like binoculars that look like binocularsshould! 
Herewe have a verynice SWIFTSKIPPER 7 x 50 from 1964.Aimed at the sailing fraternity the skipper was a strong sellingmodel from SWIFT`s most expensive range. Today, this example stillimpresses with bright, wellcollimatedand sharp images and pleasant handling althoughthe focusing and diptre are stiff from lack of use.Thisfully coated binocular benefits from a tripod mount in the lowerhinge and SWIFT`s rigid twist up eyecups which work well. Supplied ina good non-original case minusits straps,original neck strap and originalobjectivelens caps only.A new microfibrelens cloth is provided.defects:-some veryminormarks to the body and some paint chipsoffthe objective lens trim rings;the focusinganddioptre controls are stiff;internallythere are sometiny dust specks andage-related haze.itake great care examining, using and describing the binoculars andscopes isell, and always get a second opinion. however, i am not aprofessional and my description is based on my experience and honestassessment; most examples i sell are at least 35 years old and theremay be other defects…….also, please remember, everyone`s eyes aredifferent…..SPECIFICATION:SWIFT 7 x 50 SKIPPER, model No.789; made in Japan; fully coated;serial numbers: No.1-642985J-E46 J-B2; field of view 376 feet at 1000 yards; weight 1134grams; 1600grams including case and accessories.
