This is an antique telescope yoke mount.
I was going to keep this nice little mount for future considerations, but am finding that the space is more valuable to me, so have decided to let it go to someone who will do something with it.
I was told that it could perhaps be a Bardou item and its’ ornate nature around the base could indicate this, but other than this casual thought I cannot say for sure who made it or what brand it is. Neither do I know what instrument it originally carried. I believe it’s made from iron and there are two bolts and oversize wing nuts that fit into the fork arms which can be used to secure a new instrument. It weighs just under 2kg and with a distance of 110mm between the fork arms, it could be adapted to carry an instrument of 80mm or so. It needs to be completely rebuilt and restored so please keep this in mind.
Spare antique telescope mounts are rare…typically they were not boxed the way telescope tubes were and were left to become damaged through everyday life, typical life in the garage etc., so this mount presents an interesting opportunity to get an old telescope pointing skywards once again.
