Barr & Stroud CF5 6 x binoculars serial number 108469. This is an apparently quite difficult to find of the “CF5 second model” made from Circa 1935 William Reid in his Barr & Stroud history states that the CF5 was the only known re-use by Barr & Stroud of a model number, the first being one of the initial range introduced 1919-20, a 8 x 0.9inch (23mm) type which he calls the “CF5i”. This second CF5ii model here for sale Reid describes as the ” centre focus version of the CF19 and the replacement for the CF1″ and quotes a FOV of 138 yds ar 1000 yds.
This particular CF5 is in totally original, unrestored condtion. Like the CF1, it is a small, very handy glass. As to condition, nothing is missing or damaged, both in optical and cosmetic terms and the glasses have their original “Barr & Stroud” stamped case, case strap and lanyard. Optics would benefit from an internal clean, due to slight internal fungus. Prisms and lenses are all free from scratches and chips. Both centre focus and right diopter work well and collimation is perfect. Overall, these interesting and uncommon little glasses have survived remarkably well. They view well very indeed, the usual very-high quality Barr & Stroud optics and are really very pleasant to use. A nice addition to any Barr & Stroud collection.
They also come with the original instructions for using, and cleaning, in original pouch. Please see photos as they form the best part of the description.
