This is a beautiful small pair of Vintage Opera Glasses in ‘Eldis’ model from German maker G Rodenstock.The glasses have a casing in a mixture of black plastic and silver toned metal, with a striking two-toned mother of pearl inlay banded around the wider lens cylinder. The glasses have the branding text ‘G.RODENSTOCK MUNCHEN’ embossed on the front metal panel, along with ‘Eldis’ written on the underside and the serial numbers ‘137113’ and ’61’ on the reverse in white.The glasses are complete with a light tan case, in a gloss finish faux leather, with a cream silky fabric lining and a belt loop on the reverse for ease of wear.The glasses are in wonderful condition for their age, as you can see from the pictures, with a stiff but working lens dial and a clear defined image. The only signs of age that I can find are that the press stud on the case is not working (it has come away from the lining) and there seems to be a tiny bit of fine white powder inside the edges of the inner casing. However, this does not affect the view from the lens and the press stud could be sewn and fixed if buyer prefers.A wonderfully compact and beautiful little antique, this is a great piece either as a collectors item, a gift, a display piece or even to use at the opera. Plus, it is rare to find with it’s original case alongside, so at this price it will make someone a great buy. I am happy to provide further info or images so please message me if needed.
