Carl Zeiss Jena DDR”Turmon” 8 x 21 miniature folding prismatic monocular withcase. Made from 1921-1990, this tiny monocular was aimed at thediscerning user who needed the finest Carl Zeiss optics in the mostcompact form. It was so successful that it continues in production tothis day with the Zeiss Jena successor firm Docter Optic. It hasalways been made to precisely the same high optical and mechanical standards asany other Carl Zeiss glass and so produces an exceptionally clearand well-defined image and with a surprisingly wide field of view(110m at 1000m.) Note also that it can focus down to about 2metres/6ft and so can be used as a “gallery”glass. It is stored in its case flat and then folds out for use, so small that it canbe used hidden in the palm of the hand for discrete viewing intheatres, churches etc. Full full technical details, please see theZeiss catalogue page included in the photos.This particular exampledates from the 1970’s and is branded as Aus Jena which was thetrade mark used by Carl Zeiss Jena in the North American market whereZeiss West (Oberkochen) had exclusive rights to the Carl Zeissname. Like all Zeiss products produced post-WW2, it benefits fromfull T3 Zeiss blue optical coatings for enhanced low-lightperformance such as at dawn and dusk. Optics on this particularexample are still like new, crystal-clear internally, totally freefrom fungus and haze. And both the eyepiece focusing and centralhinge work very smoothly. Cosmetic condition is very good with justsome wear to the paint around the eyepiece scale. The prism covers, made from tough and durable thermo-plastic, still look very smart andthe real leather case is in good order. The monocular still has itsoriginal box bearing the Aus Jena brand So a great little CarlZeiss companion for pocket or bag.The monocular will becarefully packed in a well padded box for dispatch and sent fullyinsured.
