Carl Zeiss Binoculars Used in excellent condition
Jena – Deltrintem 8×30 magnification
Excellent condition with original leather case and straps
Made roughly 1924/26
Photos taken with iPhone as clearly as possible there are a few more photos that wont
fit on the listing, showing other views of the item, but almost all marks are shown and
certainly the largest ones.
Binoculars
The lenses appear clear and are just exquisite to look through, everything is crispy clear (even with my eye
sight!!) and bright.
They will benefit from a complete professional clean inside and out, they have a musty smell due to long
term storage before they came into my possession there is sure to be some dry mold inside them that
really should be cleaned out.
There are some very small marks (pictured) the white bits on the central adjustment ring appear to be
some sort of paint as it does come off, I have left it for the new owner to choose if they wish to make more
cleaning efforts.
There is a bit of dust built up along the joints which I have also photographed.
Leather case and straps – all original
Case outer and straps have all been professionally cleaned at a saddlery shop, they should be
stored in a carefully protected environment to prevent damp but also not let the leather get
too dry, perhaps store the binoculars separate from the case for the long term.
The lid of the case has a long mark on it probably acquired during storage, and a few very small
scuffs (some pictured).
The inside of the case smells musty, would probably benefit from some form of treatment, I am
unsure what really works, I read that Baking Soda works to take away musty smell but not certain
how to use it for this application, along with being well dried and aired…
But there may be more proven methods available.
VERY reluctant sale of my grandfathers bino’s but life has dealt a hand that I am sure he would
have agreed with the reasons for having to sell them. Grandad served in the RAF as an aircraft
mechanic during the war, I do not know if he had these with him during that time of if it was after
but i would think he did have them with him while he served in Africa and Egypt.
