Early model Zeiss Telita 6×18 binoculars & case by Meyrowitz Paris
The following website has some interesting background into the development of this Telita 1 model produced in the short period between 1923 and 1926.https://home.europa.com/~telscope/temp/new/Kelly.1999.Moeller.&.Zeiss.Binoculars.ZHS.d.pdfIt is suggested that this model was produced at a time when Zeiss were in dispute with Moeller and put economic pressure on the company who had successful models of similar design. The Telita 1 model was produced in two variants, the earlier totally gloss black enamel version and the later version having some parts covered in black synthetic leather. Both these designs were short-lived and in 1926 Zeiss ceased production of the Telita 1 and commenced production of different designs coincidently very similar to the Moeller models. This particular set of the original Telita 1 has a serial number of 1252154.This set is in very good original condition. There is a very tiny amount of edge rubbing on the extreme edges of the objective rims and the cover plates but otherwise the paint is very good. The inscriptions Carl Zeiss Jena on the left and Telita 1252154 on the right are still bright and clear, as is the 6×18 inscription on the hinge washer. The centre and right hand focus are both smooth. The lenses and prisms are clean, clear, and collimated providing excellent viewing.The glasses come with their original brown leather case which is in excellent condition with a working clasp.The glasses and case were retailed by E.B. Meyrowitz, a company founded in 1875 and still operating from premises in Paris and other worldwide locations.
