Antique Dolland of London Leather Clad Brass 3 Draw WW1 Signalling Telescope
Impressive 3 draw leather clad telescope signed Dollond London, Signalling Telescope, No 11280.
This is an impressive 3 Draw telescope by Dollond, London. It is a fine example of a high quality WW1 Field Telescope It is made of brass and is nicely stamped Signalling Dollond London No 11280 near to the eye piece. The telescope measures 32 inches fully extended and 10 inches closed. The eye piece that is fitted is marked “High” and the replacement is marked “Low.
The eyepieces unscrew to change. It is complete with its original leather carry case with shoulder strap and hard leather case for the interchangeable eyepiece. This is a fine example from probably the most important instrument maker of the period. Covered in a rich brown leather, with barrel stitching intact, and in very good condition all round.
For a time in the eighteenth and nineteenth century the word ‘Dollond’ was almost a generic term for telescope rather like ‘Hoover; is to vacuum cleaner. Genuine Dollond telescopes were considered to be amongst the best.
