I don’t think I’m going to be very helpful as I don’t know anything about them! Found in a box in my father’s loft after he passed away.
Don’t know what they’re made of but after dealing with them my hands smell of old coins! One has nothing written on it, the other J.H.Steward The Lord Bury Telescope No.2336. Can’t see anything through them other than muck but I don’t know how to focus them and spent about 30 seconds trying to work it out before giving up! So I don’t know if they work or not but they definitely need lenses cleaning! The unnamed one has the little thing at the eye piece bit than slides over, the Steward one hasn’t. Closed they are fractionally over 10″ and when extended they are both approx 30″. Both a bit bashed, the unnamed one more so. The Steward one is really stiff and took some pushing back together (unless there’s a way to do it and I was doing it the way not to do it!).
Well someone has asked me for a buy it now price but because I didn’t know anything about them I couldn’t give them a buy it now price and thought I should try and find out more about them. So, I’ve just taken them to Georgian Antiques in Leith, Edinburgh and I’ve been blown away. He says on a good day if I take them to an auction place near Portobello in Edinburgh, on a good day they could make 100. He said people don’t want them restored, they want to be able to restore them themselves. So, I’ve upped my starting price and will take them to this auction place in Portobello should they not sell on here.
