This is a rare pair of folding self contained Binoculars or Opera Glasses. The instrument comes in its maker leather ? suede carry case which is silk lined.
The interesting thing about these Binoculars is that they fold in on themselves and disappear into the lens barrels for carriage and compactness. This makes me feel they are more akin to Opera Glasses than Field Binoculars.
The Binoculars are by Bianchetti of 31, Rue Cannebiere of Marseille. They have leather covered barrels and the makers details can be found on the eye cups.
The binoculars can be focussed and they work pretty well. There is just that one caveat mentioned above which ois probably due to the imprecision of the focussing system.
The Binoculars have a Compass fitted to them which is the counter argument to the Field/Opera Glass question.
