Vintage telescope made to an exceedingly high standard.
Below we have for sale a rare Beck Kassel & Sons three draw telescope serial number 16674, with 65mm coated objective lens, sliding sun shade, screw focussing adjustment for magnification, black leather covered body with grey stove enamel sliding tubes, comes with a leather carrying case. Extremely smooth adjustment, visually superb condition & this telescope has the name “W.J.Vaughton” inscribed near to the makers name
For anyone who is unfamiliar with Beck:
Founded on 31 March 1892 Beck Kassel CBS ( Christopher Beck & Sons) were a family business based in Kassel Germany, engaged in the production of optical instruments, primarily binoculars. Following war time destruction of their premises in 1944, the company restarted production in 1948, this time concentrating on high quality binoculars.
By the 1960s binoculars, microscopes and magnifying glasses were being made by about 100 employees and sold worldwide. The company had its own optics department in which the lenses were ground and Tempered. Due to the high dimensional accuracy and the quality of the components by the late 1970s prices were too high (a top pair of binoculars were 1700dm when average incomes were 1100dm/ month) and due to mass produced binoculars from the Far East and Beck Kassels high quality expensive binoculars sometime in 1985 Beck Kassel & Sons went out of business and were taken over by Hertel & Reuss.
