For sale is my Swift Audubon Model 804 (Mark II), JL E-45 made by Tamron Optical Co in Japan. The serial number 6811010 indicates it was made in 1968. The lenses are very clear and clean, no signs of dust or fungus at all. For a 53-year old instrument, it is a sign of the workmanship that Tamron put into them – built like a tank, with the focus still icredibly smooth and solid. They are cosmetically in good used condition with paint scaling as the photos show. One objective cover ring is missing but this does not affect the functionality – it is cosmetic and the glass is still held firmly in place by other retaining rings. They come in a very sturdy leather case which is still in good condition considering its age. Note: The previous owner’s name is written inside the case, so I blotted it out digitally on the photo to protect identity, but left it physically untouched.
According to a detailed article by Edward M. Huff and Renze de Vries entitled: “The Inimitable Swift Model 804 Audubon Binoculars: Design and Marking Variations”, they classified it as Type 1c. They also mention that it was marketed as a “Mark II” but it is not marked as such on the binoclulars.
They weigh 1180g and 1680g including case – I said built like a tank.
