Equatorial Platform to give motorised tracking to Dobsonian Telescope
A Dobsonian telescope can be stood on the platform. The platform needs to be level and pointing north. It is fitted with a spirit level and compass. Currnetly, the magnetic declination (difference between magnetic north and geographical north) is essentially zero from the UK so the compass just needs to be ponting to the north. Once correctly orientated, the drive motor can be switched on and the telescope will then track celestial objects by counteracting the effect of the Earth’s rotation. The motor has a speed control which can be adjusted to the correct rate.
This listing is for the smaller of the two platforms shown in the pictures. It is suitable for telescopes up to a maximum of about 14-inches. The drive is an Eq2 drive motor which is powered by a small 9v battery that should give several tens of hours of use before needing replacement. The drive will run for approximately an hour before needing to be re-set. There is a limit switch that turns off the motor when it gets near the end of its travel.
The platform is constructed from high quality 18mm Baltic Birch plywood.
