I believe this to be anearly CUSTOM 90M VIXEN model V3a with a 90mm objective (3.5inches clear) f=1000mm. It dates from the 1980s. Anyone with knowledge of older telescopeswill be aware of the superior optical performance of this Vixen telescope.It is in excellentmechanical condition, and extremely good overall visual condition. This rare, 90mm largerversion of the ubiquitous 80mm version, is still not a cumbersome instrument touse. Total weight is about 9 kg.It comes complete with aVixen altazimuth mount, slow motion controls, and sturdy wooden extendingtripod which is adjustable for height. The 90 mm objective has afocal length of 1000mm. It is a modifiedachromatic Littrow type air spaced objective with 1/8th of a wavewave-front error or better. The objective is coated on all four surfaces.The telescope is fittedwith a 6 x 30 achromatic finder and precision rack and pinion focus mount witha 1.25 eyepiece back. A few age-related, veryminor marks on the tripod. The telescopetube has no dents. There are just a few minor scratches in thewhite paint (see photographs).The label on the barrel hasthe serial number 712M0051An on-line catalogueshows this Custom 90M for sale in the 1980s for a mighty 340.It comes supplied with a20mm 1.25 Plossl eyepiece and a star diagonal.The objective also has anaperture reducing cover which has a label which states use the above hole duringobservation of sun. However, I think it would be very unwise to point thetelescope at the sun without some other form of filter in place!I am selling this as Ifeel that, at the age of 83, I really must begin to reluctantly reduce my collectionof telescopes acquired over many years.From a non-smoking,pet-free household (Please note thatthe postage charge shown is for UK mainland only.
