Vintage Three Draw Brass Telescope Marked Ross, London.
The telescope is in an overall vintage condition with signs of use. There are age related marks/stains on the leather. There is a slight dent to the outer aperture of the casing.I believe the telescope dates back to the early twentieth century, is made of brass and is bound in leather.Looking through the telescope, the lenses could do with some cleaning. Im not brave enough to take it apart to do the job. The image is quite clear with the exception of a few dark dots which I imagine are dust or dirt over time. The first draw is slightly looser than the other two in that its easier to pull out than the others. Possibly due to having to pull and push to adjust focus. The first draw is marked ROSS LONDON. It doesnt have a serial number which, if Im right, dates it to before WW1. I would suggest you look up Ross dating marks to satisfy yourself. I cant find any broad arrow mark and therefore doubt it was a military issue. The telescope comes in a wooden box with inlaid brass on the corners and on the lid. The brass on the lid is plain and has no engravings or dedications. The telescope measures approximately 18 centimetres in the closed position, 48 centimetres fully extended. The largest lens measures approximately 3.5 centimetres in diameter. The largest external aperture measures approximately 5.5 centimetres in diameter. The telescope weighs approximately 570 grams. Please take a look at the photos and zoom in for detail.
