ROSSof London were one of several british optical companies makingbinoculars for many many years until disappearing as manufacturerstowards the end of the 20th.Century. Some of their models from the 20`s & 30`s continued inmanufacture right up to the 60`s but were looking very out-dated bythen. I can just remember seeing older bird-watchers dressed intweeds & deer-stalkers with ancient looking british binocularshanging around their necks as I proudly used my first pair of budgetJapanese binos! Well now of course with everything RETRO being cool,old ROSS binoculars are of interest and the good news is that some ofthem are really worth owning,using or.restoring!ThislittleROSSSTEPVUE8x 30is in needof restoration, it actually still functions but has very stifffocusing and hinge adjustment. The dioptre control is fine andcollimation is not too far out. The exterior is still verypresentable, but the internal optics need cleaning to rid them ofhaze and fungus but I`ve see plenty worse! One objective lenstrim ring is dented.TheSTEPVUE is not so easy to find compared to the larger ROSS models ofthe same era. This one still has its case and straps the caseclasp button is missing.
