Rare antique pair of IRIS PARIS binoculars in plain black, bearing no inscriptions or owner’s marks.
It has a simple focus/zoom and sliding sun shades for each scope. The parts appear to be made of brass, the adjustment knob feels like some form of plastic, probably Bakelite and flaking paint reveals a white metal, probably aluminium. On the knob is embossed “IRIS” and “PARIS.”
Approximate dimensions:
Fully retracted: 12.8cm x 16.4cm x 6.3cm
Extended: 12.8cm x 19.7cm x 6.3cm
Plus sun shade: 12.8cm x 22.5cm x 6.3cm
Large lens diameter: 5.0cm
Small lens diameter: 1.7cm
Weight (not including packaging): 844g
Fairly good antique condition with mild-to-moderate ageing and wear, especially to edges, corners and extremities. The leather surrounding the handles has been repaired, the leather strap looks to be original and in good original condition though well worn.
The moving parts have full range of movement. The removable parts all reattach! The lenses are in fairly good condition for their age and use with no remarkable faults, though they are obviously not pristine.
Please refer to the photos for further indications of condition and quality – and feel free to ask any questions!
