12 inch f6 Superscopes Newtonian Reflecting Telescope c1995. Condition is Used.

A very rare opportunity to purchase an excellent bespoke 12 inch f6 Newtonian reflecting telescope on a German equatorial mount, manufactured by Phil Stone of Superscopes, a company who traded in the UK in the 1990’s. This telescope dates from 1992-1995. Forget imported, mass produced instruments. This one was made by a top class engineer and features a heavy duty TITANII equatorial mount, with shafts of stainless steel. Two drive motors in RA and Dec are operated by a handset. Power is by 12V dc. I can provide a marine battery for free with this instrument.

The tube is of fiberglass. Just try and find a seam! I can’t. The tube is heavy duty, with a rounded top edge and a close fitting fiberglass end cap. The mirror cell is heavy duty and fits very well. The tube interior is matt black.

An outstanding feature of this telescope is the primary mirror, which was crafted by none other than David Sinden and it is reported to be close to 1/30th wave! I have no reason to doubt this based upon my lunar observations and those of the planets.

The cradles holding the tube are substantial. The counterweights are three in number.

The equatorial head sits on a low pillar with three tripod feet, each of which has a levelling screw at the end.

Quality is the name of the game here.

Collimation of the optics will be required.

The tube rotates in its rings, with slackening-off required to enable rotation within the rings.

I have a guide scope of about 4inch aperture, which can be provided if required. The guide scope rings are fixed to the tube.

What a wonderful beast of an instrument. Everyone who has seen it has drawn breath and admired the considerable engineering prowess required to produce an instrument of this class.

The catalogue from the 1990’s suggest that the selling price then was of the order of 4 995!!

Grab yourself a bargain and enjoy observing with a quality instrument of British manufacture.

The primary mirror alone is worth the asking price!
