this is an auction for my Celestron FirstScope which as a great little scope that has served me well, but I’m downsizing my collection. (Apparently having four telescopes is too many.)
It’s in excellent condition, the mirrors are clear and aligned well, giving good images of the moon, and enabling you to view planets and the brighter stuff in the sky. For faint nebula and distant galaxies you will need a bigger scope, anybody trying to tell you different is telling porkies.
The thing that Celestron really got right with this is its really easy to use, it’s utterly portable, you can sit it on your lap and use it if you have to.
All the hardware is there and I still have the original box, though that is a little tatty. The focusser is smooth and works well, I can also tell you it will securely hold heavier and better eyepieces should you wish to upgrade (a worthwhile thing to do with any telescope).
Celestron market this a beginners ‘first’ scope, and its a good simple scope to dip your toe into astronomy, great for kids too. I also found it was a useful ‘grab and go’ scope even if you do have a bigger telescope as well*, which is why up til now I’ve hung on to it. You can’t always set up a big scope where you need to.
*It’s a fair bet, pretty soon you’ll have a bigger scope too, astronomy does that to you.
