This is a very good quality 3 draw brass telescope. It is a model called the “Deer Stalker” and was manufactured by famous optical instrument makers J.H. Steward Ltd in the 1920s/30s.
James Henry Steward founded his optical instrument company in 1852 and the firm quickly established a reputation as manufacturers of very high quality instruments. They produced many items for military use and were the official suppliers of telescopes to the Admiralty. In addition they made many pieces for country pursuits including this model the “Deer Stalker,” which they produced during the inter war years.
This telescope has definitely done its share of deer stalking and carries a few dings and dents to prove it along with some surface scratches. However it remains in full working order, the built in eyepiece cover moves smoothly across the lens and the draws open and close. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The telescope is 80cm long when fully open and 27.7cm long when closed. It weighs just under 1.4kg.
