The AstroMaster 90 EQ Telescope is an parallactically mounted refractor
Refractors (lens telescopes) are the right choice if youre looking for a dual-purpose telescope appropriate for both terrestrial and celestial viewing. Refractors produce bright, clear, high-contrast images of the Moon and planets. It is easy to see the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn with every one of these fine instruments. The wider the aperture (meaning the diameter of the front lens) the more details are visible on the celestial objects. The aperture can be seen in the telescope’s name, meaning an AstroMaster 70AZ has a lens diameter of 70 mm, and a 90AZ a diameter of 90 mm. The AstroMaster 90AZ is therefore more powerful than the 70AZ
Equatorial mounts (see photo) are specially designed for astronomical use and other slightly more complicated nature observations. If you’re in the mood for stars, nebulae, star clusters and planets, a model with equatorial “German Mount” (EQ models) would be right.
