James Henry Steward was primarily an optician and founded his business in 1852. He operated from 406 Strand, London between the 1856 to 1871.Measures approximately 11 inches (28cm) closed and 40 inches (101cm) fully open. The large lens measures approximately 2 inches (5cm). Both lenses are clear and can be focussed on distant objects when fully extended, but are not able to focus on close objects. The telescope has therefore been made for long distance sighting. External leather and brass cover show signs of age and wear (see photos). The small lens has the original sliding cover.
