Zeiss sloping shoulder Jagdglas Vergr.=5 binocularsThese are the highly desirable Jagdglas binocularswith the distinctive sloping prism housing covers in production between 1896and 1906.  The serial number of 3796 stampedon the frame, would put these perhaps in the middle of that production period.This particular pair are in decent original condition although they are not perfectas they have been worked on in the past. They have now been stripped, cleaned,and tidied up as best as possible whilst retaining originality. Almost all ofthe original paint was missing so the brass has been lightly cleaned and acidblackened giving a bronze appearance rather than bright polished brass. Theleather is in fairly good condition with just a few shrinkage gaps but thereare no tears or damage. The eye cups are excellent replacements and look veryauthentic. The oculars turn and focus freely although one is very slightlytighter at the lower end of its travel. The hinge is free and firm. The clampcan be correctly tightened. The ocular and objective lenses are clean, clear,and undamaged. Two of the four prisms are undamaged and are clean and clear.The other two prisms have some edge nibbles which can be seen through theobjective end but do not affect normal viewing. The last two photos were takenfrom the objective end, the two prior to that through the oculars. The poorfocusing is the camera and not the binoculars. Collimation is correct.The binoculars are inscribed Carl Zeiss Jena D.R.P. on the left hand plate and Jagdglas Vergr.=5 on the right. The serial number 3798 is stamped on the frame.
