Excellent optics with no scratches on the lenses or coatings. I remember seeing this theatre binocular at Wallace Heaton in Bond Street when it first came out, priced at 599 in 1992. Looking through it, with its wide field of 200m at 1000m, and vivid undistorted image, was to realize that this is indeed the “Rolls-Royce” of theatre glasses. It is also a very useful glass for short-range use, such as in woodland, where its great depth of field obviates the need for re-focus, when even a 6×30 binocular needs to be re-focussed for 5, 10, 30 & 50 yards. Zeiss subsequently produced an identical looking binocular, not made in Germany, marked “designed by Carl Zeiss”, which was inferior to this, and was sold for a quarter of the price.
This example has scuffs to the body leather & to the case (please see the photographs), but these do not interfere with the use of either. There is a gold-colour chain in the case which can be used to secure the binocular to the wrist – it easily clips onto a ring on the binocular when required.
