WW II Royal Navy CF41 7X50 Binoculars

These WWII Royal Navy binoculars are in good useable condition. The serial number, 47595 indicates they date from the early to middle period of WWII, so they will have been on wartime service.

Focusing is excellent, both eyepieces focus and turn smoothly as they should and Collimation is correct, ie no double vision.

The lens’s are clear with just one of tiny black dots on the left lens.

The internal filters, Clear, Green, Grey & Yellow all change as they should.

The matt black paint finish has become fairly worn in places.

The “shagreen” type plastic cover or grip, on the barrels has bits missing, please see photographs 1 and 11.

I have shone a strong light through the object lens of each barrel and all looks to be correct inside.

Indented on the rear of the LEFT hand barrel is,

“Barr & Stroud 7xCF41 Glasgow & London” & “British Patent Application No 4440/1940”.

Indented on the rear of the RIGHT hand barrel is, “A.P. No.1900A IV Serial No 47595” & “British Patent No 435220/1934” with a Military Arrow. I believe A.P. represents “Admiralty Pattern”.

There is a neck strap but no case.

The Barr & Stroud CF41 was the standard Royal Navy binocular used throughout WWII, entering RN service in the mid 1930’s and continuing into the 1970’s and possibly longer in some cases.

The glasses are 9 inches (24 Cm) long by 7 inches (18 Cm) wide.

Enclosed with the binoculars will be an unused Post Office commemorative stamp depicting an RN Captain with a pair of CF41 binoculars on his neck strap. The glasses on the stamp have large military arrows on the barrels of the Captains glasses. There are no similar arrows on the barrels of these glasses and looking carefully, don’t think there ever were any.

Buyer to pay for postage please which will be 3.50 within he UK. I will ship world wide.
