Vixen Atlux 150ED 6″ Apochromatic refractor with Baader SteelTrack 3″ focuser plus Moonraker sliding counterbalance system.
I am reluctantly offering my lovely Vixen Atlux 150ED for sale. This is a very rare scope, I believe it is one of only 6 in the country. This scope was originally owned by Chris Campbell back in 1993 and was the one featured in the Astronomy Now review at the time which I have scans of if they are of interest. Optically it is very nice indeed as you would expect from a 6″ ED Doublet with excellent optical figuring.
I originally acquired the scope with an AstroPhysics single speed R&P focuser on it. It was very nice, but I wanted a dual speed, so had an adaptor made up buy Mark at Moonraker to allow the fitting of a nice 3″ Baader SteelTrack focuser. At the same time Mark flocked the OTA and also made me a bespoke sliding counterbalance system to help when observing with different weight eyepieces. It works very well although some nicer weights would finish it off well.
The scope has very solid tube rings and a long Losmandy dovetail to ensure a solid connection to the mount. The optics are very nice, although they do have some dew marks on them. The tube is in reasonable condition but again give the age it has some paint chips and marks, some of which have been touched in, and there are four holes in the tube which had previously been rivetted but these were removed when the tube was flocked. They have been covered over.
Any mounts, tripods, other scopes shown in the images are not included in the sale. The 2″ Prism diagonal shown is also not included in the sale. Included are:
