WW2 (1943 dated) British Army Officer’s Kershaw Binoculars WD stamp in leather case
WW2 British Army Officer’s Kershaw & Son Prism No.2 Mk.II graticule Binoculars, x6 magnification with WD stamps in stitched bridle hide leather case. Issued to the British Army for field observation. Interestingly, these binoculars were obviously made for retail sale and then taken over by the army as they bear full retail stamps for Kershaw overstamped with the official War Department details. They are dated 1943 with a serial no. 1215536. On the other shoulder it indicates that the graticules are 1/2 apart and 1/4 1/2 and 1 high. Black Matt and hammered painted finish with some wear
Both binoculars and case have seen good use in the field and show signs of this as you would expect but are still serviceable. Optically still functional as far as I can tell, for example I don’t any double images (although as a spectacle wearer I struggle with binoculars anyway) but could do with a clean and an oil (one of the focusing lenses is a bit “sticky” in use and the right lens image is quite “grubby”). Neck strap to case is broken and one brass stud is missing, whilst the neck strap for the binoculars themselves is probably a replacement.
