Zeiss M.Blink 16 4×20 Monocular signalling device c1918This type of monocular was used with signalling and blink-devices as part of messaging systems. Because signalling lights were purposely weak so they could not be easily seen by the enemy, binoculars or monoculars were needed to locate and watch the blinking signals. This purpose made monocular has two feet with threads in the side and a leather strap to fix it to the blinking device. It can be used as a hand held monocular.This particular monocular is in great original condition. The black paint finish is rubbed and scuffed as shown in the photos.The very hard stippled coating to the body is also a little worn.The original little leather attaching strap is still supple and firmly attached with the original brass slotted head screws. The ocular focusing is quite stiff with age.The Bakelite eye cup is not chipped but some of the grey paint is worn off around the edge.The viewing is clear although when back viewed there is some dust. There are no chips or scratches to the lens.The inscriptions on the cover plate are crisp and clear. They read M.Blink 16 Carl Zeiss Jena with the serial number 91529.This is a tiny little device being only 2.6 (65mm) long.On 02-Sep-15 at 13:38:42 BST, seller added the following information:Please note that the case mentioned in the title is not the original case – It’s a more recent camera case.
