Home (Maritime Engineer) built – Tripod mounted 6″ Dobsonian  F6 864mm (mirror is hand marked as f6/34″)

– Zeta  Orionis? Adjustable Focal length carrier and 1.25″ smooth helical focusser

this looks like it has a precision hand made mirror

Professional Marine Engineer’s assisted his son with machining and elements of the design were obviously his work
(also built extremely detailed models of C18 wooden warship hulls down to individual copper sheet hull plating, but no viewer access to the finely detailed internal wood and metal modelling of bunks, firing deck etc. 

This was a one off father and son project, no specific defects, manufactured with care and precision, very few signs of use. 

Very impressive piece, everything has been well thought out and will undoubtably reward careful setup and collimation, it will work superbly.

The Zeta Orionis focus base may have been designed and made by them as I can find no link to maker, it is slide mounted to alow adjustment to your preference.
The spider is not set solidly and could do with some method of restricting the mounting screws from turning movement.

Possibly room for improvement and modification yet works extremely well as is. 

I have not understood the counterweight system as yet, but it balances well with the resistance method

He took his eyepieces with him or just had the one he swapped between the finder and this. Builder disappeared in exotic location.

Viewing welcomed, London N16. it is hard to judge just how well made this is from these photos. Collection preferred but I will be able to UPS as it weighs around 24 kg in its box 93x30x30 cm
