The picture attached is the reflector as a Dobsonian when I used it in Oman. Dark skies were brilliant in the desert. Good views of the Ring Nebula in Lyra and I managed to see most of the Messier objects and a good few of the Caldwells too. Took a set of digital pics of the last transit of Venus in 2004 and the transit of Mercury in 1999.
The main mirror and secondary are matched and the mirror is a 1/12 wave, f6.36, 254mm dia made by Galvoptics and the quality of the images are first class. The telescope frequently out-performed the local astronomical society’s Celestron Cassegrains. The telescope is disassembled for transit at the moment and the ends of the tube have been cut off, one with the female half of the mirror cell and the other with the secondary, spider & eyepiece. There are aluminium tubes ready to fit after as the weight of the Dobsonian was too heavy for fitting to an equatorial. I have also constructed a very heavy duty equatorial mount that you can adapt to fit to a pier inside an observatory or your garden, it was built to piggy back my reflector and is separately boxed. It has two pairs of gimballed bearings and will accurately support a fair weight. There are some, eyepieces, a solar filter, laser rangefinder, collimation laser, books etc., in fact ten years of collected astronomical equipment. If you are interested you can make me an offer but the price quoted is fair. There is a galvanised steel box for all the bits but the equatorial mount is very heavy. Other dims below. Pick up would be best but buyer would have to pay for a courier service for delivery if too far to come. No idea of the cost of this service but the boxes are:
Galvanised steel box 55 x 78 x 30 cm
Mount box 45 x 33 x 37 cm
Mirror cell case 35 x 35 x 17 cm
Tubes 6 off x 177 cm
Accessory case 46 x 15 x 33 cm
Great project for someone who wants to get into astronomy a bit more practically.
Selling due to no space to use it and have moved o a heavily light polluted area near Newcastle.
