SWIFTbinoculars were the top Japanese made brand in the U.K. from the1960`s through to the 90`s. Selling in top department stores,independent photographic shops and opticians, they were available onmost high streets. Thislisting is for a SWIFT ULTRALITE 7 x 42 rubber armoured porroprism binocular in goodcondition. So briefly, what is an ULTRALITE? The clue is in the name.SWIFT amongst others in the 1990`s were looking to modernise theirranges but still sticking to someporroprism designs. Low weight was seen as the way to go, and theultralite range are trulylightweight this 7 x 42 weighs onlyaround600 grams (21 ounces). A strong traditional body was partly coveredwith thin but very tactile rubber armouring in an unusual (for thetime) light grey colour. Optical ability was enhanced with SWIFT`sFULL MULTI-COATING. Other features included soft rubber fold down eyecups and a spring loaded tripod mount in thelower hinge. So what is it like to use? Well for me, ULTRALITESare really excellent binoculars to use regularly, very tactile tohandle and obviously very lightweight. I`ve used this rare 7 x 42 version for birding for the last six months and for me it has proved to be the best ULTRALITE i`ve owned and used; very bright optically with accuratecolour rendition and good edge to edge sharpness.Thisonecomes with its original linked ocular lens caps/rainguard; non-original minolta objective lens caps; a brand new webbing neck strap and the originalSWIFTsoft case with attached strap and front compartment. A new microfibre lenscloth is also suppled.Defects: a few small marks externally;internally, just a few tiny dust specks.itake great care examining, using and describing the binoculars isell, and always get a second opinion. however, i am not aprofessional and my description is based on my experience and honestassessment; most examples i sell are at least 35 years old and theremay be other defects…….also, please remember, everyone`s eyes aredifferent…..
