SWIFTwerethe top Japanese binocular brand available in the U.K. for severaldecades. Available from the best independent camera shops, binocularspecialists, opticians, pharmacists and top department stores. TheSWIFT SP and SPWA ranges appeared in the late 1980`s if I remembercorrectly, and were available throughout the 1990`s. Swift Pyser andSwift Pyser Wide Angle models were relatively low volume sellers atleast in the U.K. and are rare on the second hand market today. TheAUDUBON HR5`s that shared the same strong but light body design aremuch more common. Have no doubt though, all these related SWIFTbinoculars are high quality porroprisms, offering great opticalability and handling that arguably has not been bettered bycomparable porroprisms in the last 20 years.ThisSWIFT SP 8 x 40 is quite rare and has obviously been much enjoyed in the past. It does have some issues – well mainly just one really, but this is a good glass and I`m sure can be put to rights and then put to use by somebody. It is complete with its case (but no case strap), original neckstrap, and a newmicrofiber lens cloth. There are no lens caps. It features rubber fold down eyecups forspectacle wearers and a sprung loaded tripod mount in the lower hinge.
Defects: The body has paint loss and paint chips and some areas of smoothing on the body covering; some internal dust specks and a few internal marks on the optics – suggesting it has been cleaned in the past; there is a slight but definite collimation error – not too bad, but it needs attention; the case lid has a previous owners name written inside.
itake great care examining, using and describing the binoculars isell, and always get a second opinion. however, i am not aprofessional and my description is based on my experience and honestassessment; most examples i sell are at least 35 years old and theremay be other defects…….also, please remember, everyone`s eyes aredifferent…..
