SWIFTbinoculars were the top Japanese made brand in the U.K. in the1960`s, 70`s & 80`s. Selling in top department stores,independent photographic shops and opticians, they were available onmost high streets.If I recall correctly, the SWIFT DERBY and SWIFT Osprey were introduced at the same time in the mid 80`s. Both had an excellent rubber armoued body, rubber fold down eyecups for spectacle wearers and an unusual 7.5 x 42 specification, plus new lens coatings. Claimed as HIGH RESOLUTION models, their optical ability was very good and I have used several OSPREYS extensively over the years for birding – which is what SWIFT intended them for. The DERBY on the other hand was an attempt by SWIFT to produce a binocular for racegoers and the main difference to the osprey was the independent eyepiece focusing. This was achieved using oversize adjusters with click stops which once you get the hang of them are easy and pleasant to use in my opinion. This example is in excellent used condition being virtually unmarked, and comes with its original webbing neckstrap and excellent case.
