The GERMAN SCHMIDT and BENDER brand of optical equipment is still going today producing very high quality rifle scopes. For a relatively short time they produced an excellent 15-60 x 60 draw tube telescope or spotting scope. This was aimed mostly at target shooters, but hunters and bird watchers also would have found them highly usable and desirable. Very few were produced and hardly surprisingly they very rarely come on the open market.This example is the rubber armoured version and has a dual tripod screw attachment. The rubber armour is in good condition, and both draw tubes move out smoothly with a nice amount of resistance. There is some minor paint loss from use around the eyepiece and controls. The rubber fold down eyecup is a bit loose and i suspect it is not the original. The leather case is in good enough order and is complete with its leather straps, but it looks like both top and bottom have been re-stitched at some point. This rare scope is being listed as `for parts or not working`, because focusing is not possible at lower magnifications. I have to assume that something is wrong, broken or missing from within and a knowledgeable person would need to get this problem rectified…possibly quite easily?…I just don`t know.Defects: focusing problem – not able to focus at lower magnifications; some light marks to rubber armouring; minor paint loss to controls; some missing grub screws?; eyecup slightly loose – may not be original; some internal haze/fogging; case lid and base have been re-stitched.itake great care examining, using and describing the scopes andbinoculars i sell, and always get a second opinion. however, i am nota professional and my description is based on my experience andhonest assessment; most examples i sell are at least 35 years old andthere may be other defects…….also, please remember, everyone`seyes are different…..SPECIFICATION: SCHMIDT and BENDER (biebertal wetzlar) 15-60x ZOOM draw tube telescope or spotting scope; 60mm objective; made in west germany; rubber armoured; rubber folddown eye cup; serial number No.12949; body weight 1130 grams with case &eyepieces 1500 grams.Thisscope will be thoroughly double wrapped & packed for thepurchaser and will be sent using a tracked service within the U.K.Carriage prices quoted are to mainland U.K. please contact me fora quote if you non-mainland.Iwill also send WORLDWIDE using E Bay`s GLOBAL SHIPPING PROGRAMME.Collectionis welcome.Paypalmuch preferred.SCHMIDT & BENDER are a high quality german manufacturer but only produced a small number of these zoom spotting scopes, in top condition they can sell for up to 750.
