Ross X5 BINO PRISM MK IV 6E/383 WWII RAF binoculars in original box / case
A pair of 5×40 fixed focus binoculars made by Ross during the Second World War for use by the RAF.
They are in their original box.
They are marked on the prism covers X5 BINO PRISM MK IV No. 2619 and 6E/383 B.
The type entered service in 1941.
I’ve seen serial numbers for this model up to 8709, so these would have been made early in the war.
Info from T Wayland; The 6E/383 was of a 5X 40 cemented prism specification with fixed focus for use by aircrew.Aircrew selection criteria included perfect eyesight. It was introduced in 1941. Unlike the No 5 Model, the field lens is not cemented to the prism but contained in the eyepiece. It was possibly the first military binocular to have coated lenses. 8mm exit pupil, Field of view 10.5 degrees

Optics are clean and clear
In alignment
Viewing shade is in great condition
Hinge is lovely and smooth
