These Ross Stepsun Binoculars are in mint cosmetic condition, no signs of damage or of having been used since manufacture in the 1950s. A consequence is mechanical movements are very stiff. but have now eased of through being used. These binoculars are difficult to date but there is information on the internet that says they were out of production by 1964. However I have a Lind-Air Optronics catalogue from 1959 which lists current Ross binoculars and the 12 x 50 are not shown. Instead it lists the 11 x 50 Stepleven which superseded the Stepsun 12 x 50. So my best guess taking the exceptional condition into account is they date from about 1957/58. The optical condition is also excellent. The coated lenses are not visibly scratched and viewing the internal condition from the 50mm objective side no faults can be seen. In use they are excellent with a bright clear sharp image. I have a set of 7 x 50 Steplux and in use the brightness of the 12 x 50 image is the same, which is a measure of the clean internal condition of the optical surfaces.The case is excellent and only shows marks from storage.To appreciate the condition of these binoculars viewing should be considered.
