For sale is a very well made pair of binoculars (Made in Germany). I believe the Bernina range of Hartmann binoculars were first made in 1961, so these probably date to around this time.
In good cosmetic condition for its age with some light wear marks to some of the metal areas on the body.
Optics – no cracks to the glass. One or two very, very small scratches to the rear glass but hardly noticeable. Looks like the optics could benefit from being opened-up and cleaned with lens cleaning solution as there appears to be dirt marks and some hazing, but I can’t see any obvious signs of any nasty mould / fungus (unless the dirt marks are in fact some sort of mould?) It does look more like dirt tarnishing to me though.
The image is still pleasing and nice and sharp and this is down to the quality German optics used in these binoculars. I have done some background reading on these binoculars and I believe that they also have anti-reflection coating on the optics, which helps make the image brighter. In their day, these optics were comparable to that of Leitz and Zeiss.
Focussing works fine and is smooth. Same is true for the focussing on the right hand side eye piece.
Binoculars have a shoulder strap attached to them.
Also comes with its original black leather carry case with red felt lining. The carry strap has come apart on one side, which you can see in the photos. I guess the new owner could have a go at fixing this though, even with the use of superglue perhaps?
