A very nice pair of the earlier Leitz 8×32 Trinovid roof prism binoculars complete with original Leitz case and neck strap. A particular feature of this glass is it’s very compact size coupled with an outstandingly wide field of view of just over 8.5 degrees or 150 metres at 1000 metres. It weighs just 495 grams. Since this design binoculars have generally got larger and less compact and with a less wide field of view. It was a breakthrough design particularly noted for it’s ergonomic shape. It was recently cleaned by Gary Hawkins of East Coast Binocular Repairs who were recommended by Leica in Mayfair for early Trinovid repairs. Leica however supplied the new rubber eyecups.
Condition is good, not mint but very clean and optically first class with nice smooth internal focussing and ocular adjustment. The leather case is very good and the glass fits it very well. This particular design of Leitz binocular was so good Leica are reintroducing it updated in 7×35 8×42 and 10×40. Quite why they are not updating the 8×32 escapes me. An all round good performing classic.
