BINOCULAR

is in little used condition and complete with it’s lanyard and rainguard, and a new set of eyecups. From my personal collection.

The 7x42BA is well known, along with the Zeiss 7x42B, as a great low light binocular for stalking, birdwatching etc in very low light conditions (exit pupil size 6mm). It is also extremely steady to hold and does not suffer from the image instability of more powerful binoculars due to vibration in the hands. The Leitz model is significantly lighter in weight than the Zeiss as a result of the more compact Uppendahl prisms used.

Equally suitable for use with or without spectacles.

Serial number 887392 indicates a late model.

Beautifully made and a dream to
use, and the optics of these Leitz binoculars compare strongly with the
later Leica Trinovid and Ultravid. (Please see testimonials at the end
of this listing). 

 There is no doubt that these binoculars
are among the very best ever produced, and preferred by many users to
the newer products. There is also no doubt either that
optical excellence is only one factor of several to be
considered when choosing binoculars, and all experienced users
will agree with my view that there are necessary compromises to be made.
These Leitz 7x42BA offer far more positive attributes than most
others at well over twice their price. Their compact dimensions, low
weight, sparkling performance giving images of extremely high resolution, and
famously ultra smooth focusing and dioptre adjustment mechanism are all unsurpassed
by current top class and more expensive binoculars.

The multicoated lenses and internal optics are of the highest
quality and are perfect and crystal clear. The body is unmarked. There is a tiny degradation of one of the soft rubber eyecups, so I have included a brand new pair. The focusing mechanism and dioptre adjustment mechanisms are perfect; butter smooth as these models are famous for (Far smoother than ANY binocular made since!!).

  The collimation is also
perfect.

Because of the extremely high quality optics, these binoculars can
be used for prolonged periods without discomfort or eyestrain. Perfect for
birdwatching, nature observation and general purposes.

 Just a few words about
the Leitz Trinovid binoculars compared to the newer models known
as Leica Trinovid.

When E.Leitz changed the name of their Company
to Leica Camera Company, for marketing reasons, in the late eighties, they
set about redesigning their binocular range. The Trinovid binoculars
became waterproof (submersible) instead of  weatherproof. 

(Leitz actually specified their Leitz Trinovid
binoculars as “Climate proof, dust proof and spray-waterproof” as opposed to
the new specification of the Leica Trinovid as “Waterproof”, meaning
submersible in water). The earlier Leitz models have true internal
focusing mechanisms and are sealed against moisture ingress. 

Unfortunately, the new designs sacrificed low
weight and the superb ergonomic advantages of the older Leitz models.

For example, on our digital scales, the older Leitz
Trinovid 8×32 weighs 485gms. The newer Leica Trinovid 8×32 design weighs
635gms!!   The Leitz Trinovid 10×40 weighs 580gms
and the newer Leica Trinovid 10×42 weighs 904gms!!

Ergonomically, the newer Trinovid models are
bulkier, and the legendary sleek shape and superb comfort in the hand of the
Leitz have gone. Optical and image quality, however, remains unrivalled. 

This has lead many experts in the field to note
that demand for the older, now obsolete, Leitz Trinovid  models is escalating

 and the prices are rising correspondingly,
resulting in them now not only being the best binoculars to use but also a good
investment for the future.

Hi Eric, The Leitz binoculars arrived today as promised and I am absolutely delighted
with them.
As I mentioned before, I’ve waited a very long time for a pair of these and
having looked at many of your items, I was pretty sure that it would be you
that would be supplying what I was looking for. I am so glad I waited.
When I opened the package, I could not believe the condition of them, they look
like they have just left the factory, exactly as described “mint /
unused”.
I had always decided that I would be getting a “decent pair”, but to
find some like these was always going to be nigh on impossible.

Hi Eric,
Just to let you know that the Trinovids arrived safely with me yesterday….and
I am absolutely thrilled to bits with them.

I’ve tested
them thoroughly against my Ultravids and the difference (if any) in optical
performance is extremely borderline…..but the Leitz feel immeasurably better
in coming up to the eye, in the hand and around the neck.

The only
‘criticism’ I can dream up is that the Leitz are immensely better than the way
you describe and advertise them!

You might be interested to know that there is so little difference between my
Zeiss Victory FLs and the Leitz Trinovid, that it starts to make me wonder
whether there is a huge amount of hype and talking up of the new binoculars.
Quite enlightening. I am delighted with the 10x40B and am still amazed at how
Leitz managed to pack so much into such a small package. They have the
potential to be a great binocular to always have with you.
