Mariner 190 Gen 3 Image intensifier monocular. With the standard lens, it has a 40 degree field of view, however, the front lens is a standard C – mount, so other lenses/adapters can be fitted. As well as the standard lens, It is supplied with a C – mount to astronomical 1.25 adapter for mounting on to astronomical telescope eyepiece mounts. The viewing eyepiece has independent focussing and also has an external thread for the eyepiece cup, which can be unscrewed,so an adapter could be made for mounting a lightweight camera.(I am unsure of the exact size, but it is around 45 mm diameter). There is a standard camera 1/4 thread tripod mounting hole on the base.
There is no instruction booklet or original box, but it comes with its original softcarrying case. The monocular runs on 2 AAA batteries. It is in very good cosmetic and operating condition, with some slight scraping on the battery cover slot, as you would expect from normal usage. The photos through the eyepiece show about 2/3 of the field of view as I could not focus any closer. One photo shows the small black speck near the top.The all green photo is an attempt to show the uniformity of the tube without a focussed image. The black bar runing horizontally across is my balcony! The tube is in very good condition, with no large burns or defects. If the light level is turned up, and looking at a flat illumination, it is possible to see the tiny black speck, but this is not visible during normal use. Because the tube is in such good condition, no returns will be accepted as a result of misuse. You are advised to take due care with this very sensitive device. It has automatic gain adjust, so will be ok when used at nighttime, but could be damaged if used in daylight. With the supplied adapter, I have used this on small astronomical refractor telescopes.Looking at the nebula in Orion, an ordinary eyepiece shows just a hint of fuzziness, but through the intensifier, a proper picture of the nebula is seen, looking like a long exposure photo. This was also with a very narrowband H-alpha filter (not included), to reduce sky light pollution. Views are in real time, green, and with some scintillation noise sparkles which are features of an image intensifier. Forget your Gen 1 and Gen 2 devices, this is a real generation 3 image intensifier with an American made Litton tube. As this is a Gen 3 device, it is subject to ITAR regulations, hence is for salein the UK only. (Theoretically, I could sell it to the EU and US, but the paperwork would be horrendous)! Please also note that you should not take this out of the UK, even just on holiday, without appropriate paperwork. Postage is a little high, but this is to cover insurance. Sensible offers above the starting price will be considered for Buy it Now. The ITT 190 Mariner Night Vision Monocular Generation 3, was developed and introduced as a step up and a natural progression of the 160. It is of course, a Generation 3 NV scope. Manufactured by ITT Night Vision, the leading US producer of Gen 3 night vision devices. The 190 Gen 3 Monocular boasts a High resolution 54/mm lp (minimum), high gain, and high photo response in visible and near infrared. It uses a 25mm lens mount, which is a readily available lens made for CCTV (surveillance camera’s) applications. You can also buy cheap adapters to use better quality lens’s like Nikon, Minolta, etc. With any NV scopes use no less then a 50mm f1.4 lens.
It’s by far the smallest ITT G3 scope ever produced. With a very convenient weather resistant on and off button, located within it’s top handgrip. It’s built with an all alloy and super lightweight and very strong body. The batteries are two standard AAA batteries and last for 40 hours of use. Further technical details are given below. The F9800 is a Gen 3 18mm image intensifier manufactured by ITT Industries Night Vision. The F9800 (MX10160 type) is the most widely used image intensifier and is found in the AN/AVS-6 & 9 Aviators Night Vision Imaging Systems (ANVIS), most Gen 3 weaponsights, and many different goggles and monocular systems. Call or e-mail us for specific applications and use.
The F9800 series image intensifier consists of a high efficiency GaAs photocathode bonded to a glass input window, a microchannel plate (MCP) current amplifier, and a P-43 phosphor screen deposited on an inverting fiber optic output window. The Gen 3 photocathode is very sensitive to low radiation levels of visible and, especially, near infrared light. Tube lifespan is an average of 12,000 hours continuous use.
