Hensoldt Wetzlar Dienstglas 6 x 30 German WW2 military binoculars. With versions made by all Germany’s leading optical manufacturers, the “Dienstglas” was the standard issue binocular for all of Germany’s armed forces during WW2. This Hensoldt example is probably from the early war period (1939-41) as it still bears full maker’s markings, replaced later in the war by anonymous three letter “milcodes”  to disguise production facility locations. Likewise the very low serial number is probably Hensoldt rather than the later forces-wide serials. The triangle beneath the company name on the left prism housing denotes low-temperature grease suitable for winter campaigns, for instance in Russia. The other indication that it is early war is the fact that it has a  Hensoldt case, bearing the company logo, rather than the later Waffenamt 6 x 30 generic types, often in bakelite. The Hensoldt case is typically military, made from very thick, tough leather and with a belt loop on the back and a compartment in the lid for filters (photo.) Its weathered finish shows that it probably saw plenty of use over many years and campaigns. The binoculars have the durable standard German WW2  black crackle paint finish military finish and this is all present and in good order. Optics on this example are A1, crystal clear and with undamaged prisms and lenses. Collimation is perfect and they view very well indeed with a flat, pin-sharp and bright image and with excellent edge definition. The individual eye  focussers and central bridge also move freely. They feel amazingly light, at just 400 gms (14 ozs) aimed to minimise the German “Landser’s” kit load. On this particular example there is no range-finding reticle. There can only be a limited number of sound, original German WW2 Dienstglas remaining so this complete and fully-serviceable  example with its interesting case would make an excellent addition to any collection. The binoculars will be very carefully packed in a well padded box for dispatch and sent fully insured. I never end auctions early so there is no “buy-it-now” price.
