Excellent condition — almost as new
This is a high quality solid brass refractor telescope by HELIOS – Optical Vision Ltd – OVL – www.opticalvision.co.uk
This telescope sells new for 499 — https://www.opticalvision.co.uk/astronomical_telescopes-brass_telescopes/fine_brass_60700.html
The Helios 60700 model is 60mm objective lens diameter and 700mm focal length
The fitted eyepiece gives 28x magnification and there is accurate rack and pinion focusing
Solid mahogany adjustable tripod – the photos show legs not extended; the tripod legs can be almost doubled in length / height. With a robust brass alt-az altitude-azimuth mounting.
There is a brass accessory tray that attaches to the legs and keeps the tripod legs at a fixed angle — this is pictured separately, with the various fixing screws, wingnuts etc and the brass lens caps.
Right angle viewer on the end of the eyepiece means you can view through the telescope sitting or standing comfortably.
Gives an upright view so can be used as a terrestrial telescope, can also be used as an astronomical telescope.
The fitted finder scope gives a wide field of view and makes it easy to point the telescope at what you want to see. There are cross hairs in the finder. The screws in the finder mount allow you to adjust and calibrate the finder easily.
This telescope looks terrific and is high quality and makes a great display item and would be excellent in a room with a fine view or sea view, the optics are good, so it is an excellent telescope to use, not just a decorative brass item . Much higher quality than some of the cheap so-called nautical telescopes. The mounting in particular is much better than some of the similar looking but cheaper quality telescopes.
It can also be used as an astronomical telescope. The finder makes it easy to locate objects in the sky and point the telescope at them. The mounting moves pretty smooth so following and tracking an object should be easy.
Starting price of 199 is great value against a 500 new price so bid away.
The item is in Gloucestershire and I would prefer to deliver personally or do collection rather than entrust to a courier so contact me for delivery price (to cover fuel, basically). I am able to courier the item but telescopes and optics are not insured for damage and I have seen telescopes with lenses broken in transit before. So to drive to you would be safer I think if you are within 150 miles or so of Cheltenham / Gloucester.
