DESCRIPTION
*  A good quality and very compact instrument*  Intact and clear lenses. Good, long distance focusing*  Schryle-Huygens Four Lens Configuration housed within the First Draw*  Excellent quality Objective lens*  Well engineered with heavy tubes and very precise threads
It has a good long range. Images of objects up to about half a mile away are remarkably distinct. The tightly fitting leather covering seems to have been shrunk-fit onto the barrel – a technique which was introduced in the early part of the 20th century.
When the eyepiece  is unscrewed, it provides access to a 1″ brass cartridge containing Lenses 1 & 2, each in its own threaded mount.  When the 1st Draw is uncoupled from the 2nd Draw,  the 1″ brass cartridge containing Lenses 3 and 4 is accessible. Each has its own threaded mount. All lenses are therefore easily removable for cleaning.The second draw, when decoupled from the third draw reveals a reducing insert.
The 7/8″  /  230mm Objective Lens is about  0.5″ thick and consists of an inseparable, twin element  bonded achromatic lens set in a threaded mount. It does not appear ever to have been removed from its mount but that would be unnecessary because both surfaces are easily accessible for cleaning when it is unscrewed fro the main barrel housing.  The push-on lens cap is a snug fit. Both it and the other exposed brass sections and the tubes have the original dark lacquer coating which is in overall good condition.

CONDITION :
Excellent original and unrestored condition and in full working order. All the lenses are present and clear. The optics are excellent. The tubes show no distortion and move easily. Most retain traces of the original blacking. All sections and lenses can be easily disassembled for cleaning and maintenance. All couplings and threads operate smoothly. Those between the barrel and the Objective lens and between the Third Draw and the Barrel are quite deeply threaded in. Focusing is very precise.

FAULTS:
None are apparent apart from some very light losses to the black lacquer on  the Objective lens cover.
